Our Caritas Theme is:  Happiness is finding happiness

Year 2 – Fire Fire

Year 2 travel back in time to discover the remarkable events of the Great Fire of London in history and through considering such losses that occurred at that time start to understand how to find happiness. They uncover the properties of everyday materials in science and link it to its significance in life in 1666. Through mapping, in geography, some of the main landmarks in London of the past and comparing them to now they understand how disasters can strike. Year 2 also use Scratch in computing to trace our steps across London. Through expressive painting in art the children create their own views of the great fire. The children explore happiness through music, whilst learning to be in a rock band and learn the dimensions of music, like pulse, rhythm and pitch through a group song.

Homelearning

Homelearning

Your child will be getting spelling, maths and topic-based home learning tasks. These can be completed in their homelearning books or on the Active Learn Website. They will be set on a Wednesday and expected to return their home learning book by Tuesday to get work for the following week.

This half term, we will be learning about The Great Fire of London. Please do see the new Knowledge Organiser for our new topic 'Fire Fire'. Please choose 1 activity per week to complete from the home learning menu. They do not have to be done in any particular order. Be as creative as you like with your learning. I look forward to seeing all the fantastic work the children produce.

P.E.

Our P.E. lessons will be every Monday and Tuesday.

Please ensure your child has the correct St. Luke's PE kit.  We will still be doing outdoor PE when the weather turns cold, so navy joggers and sweatshirt will be required.

NO JEWELLERY is to be worn for any PE lessons; this includes earrings, bracelets, necklaces and watches.

Other Helpful Hints

Reading

The most important educational support you can provide is to read and enjoy books with your child. It is essential that you spend fifteen minutes every week day doing one or two of the following to support your child as they learn to read.

Option One: Your children reads their school book aloud to you, to practice their skills.

Option Two: You and your child share a book/magazine together and enjoy the experience.

Option Three: You as a parent read the library book or any home book to your child to enjoy.

Books will be sent home to you on a Wednesday and you will need to have returned them to school by the following Monday, so that we are able to change them.

Having reading experiences daily will build your child’s confidence and so improve their reading skills, and love of learning.

Water Bottles

Your child must bring in a water bottle each day.  Our water fountains are currently switched off, so water bottles from home are essential.  They will bring these home each day.

Birthdays

Please be reminded that children are not to bring in party bags or sweets.  Instead, we ask that a book is donated to our school/class library.
